Alianza FC edged out CD Luis Angel Firpo, 2x1, on Sunday, in a match relating to the quarter-finals of El Salvador Clausura. Milton Meléndez's team beat Eraldo Correia's team, 2x1, in the first leg of the tie.
In the 14th minute, CD Luis Angel Firpo saw Eduardo Vigil get sent off due to accumulation of yellows. Narciso Orellana opened the score after 20 minutes. In the 23rd minute, Moisés Mejía fired home for Usulután's team, assisted by Jaime Ortíz.
With 84 minutes on the clock, William Canales had a golden chance to score but missed the penalty. Juan Carlos Portillo netted the last goal deep into added time. In stoppage time, Alianza FC saw Rodolfo Zelaya miss a penalty.
With this result, Alianza FC are into the next round of the competition. In relation to forthcoming league matches, San Salvador's team will play at home against Platense Municipal.
