Mascherano on Xabi Alonso: I Don't Wish Him the Best Because He's at Real Madrid

Javier Mascherano, currently the coach of Inter Miami, was asked about Xabi Alonso, a former teammate at Liverpool, who was recently introduced as the new coach of Real Madrid. Remember that these two clubs might face each other at the Club World Cup.

«He is one of the best I've played with throughout my career. He's a great person, and I had the privilege to play with him for three years. He did an excellent job at Bayer Leverkusen. I don't wish him the best because he's at Real Madrid, but I am sure he will be a great coach,» stated the Argentine coach, whose past is linked to Barcelona, a major rival of the blancos.»

Mascherano also previewed the Club World Cup: «It's normal for a European team to win, given the quality of the squads. It would be a surprise if that didn't happen, but why can't we be that surprise»

«This tournament represents a different level and will allow us to understand where we stand in world football,» added Mascherano.

Inter Miami will face Al-Ahly in the opening round of the Club World Cup. Both teams are in the same group as FC Porto.
