FIFA announced on Friday, in a ceremony held at the White House with Donald Trump, the U.S. president, and Gianni Infantino, the president of the global football governing body, that the final draw for the 2026 World Cup - to be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada - will take place on December 5th in Washington.
«It is a tremendous honor to bring this global event and these incredible athletes, the greatest in the world, to the cultural center of our nation's capital», stated Donald Trump in the Oval Office.
The 2026 World Cup, remember, will be held from June 11 to July 19 next year, and will feature 48 teams for the first time. It will be organized by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
So far, 10 teams have already qualified for the tournament - Australia, South Korea, Iran, Japan, Jordan, and Uzbekistan, New Zealand, Ecuador, Argentina, and Brazil. Portugal will start its qualification campaign in September.
