Thiago Almada, the creative 24-year-old Argentine midfielder, was officially introduced as a new signing for Atletico Madrid this Tuesday and explained his choice for the colchoneros, after having been close to joining Benfica.
«It was my dream to play here and I have achieved it. I chose Atletico because I have a great affection for the club, I have friends who played here, I became very attached to the club, and when they told me there was this possibility, I did not hesitate. It is one of the biggest clubs, you can already feel what Atletico Madrid is like,» he began.
«Several new signings arrived, many young players happy to be here, with the ambition to achieve things and make history at the club. This greatly strengthens the unity. With the Argentinians, we share many moments together, it's good. And then, it also helps us understand each other on the field,» he added.
Almada inherited the number 11 jersey, which belonged to his compatriot Angel Correa. «He told me about the club, the people, the city, everything. The most important thing is to play, I can play in any position in the attack, my position is on the left.»
The young Argentine international was almost certain to join Benfica, but ultimately chose Atleti, strengthening the Spanish side for 21 million euros, for half of his pass.
