Folarin Balogun continued his impressive run of form on Sunday as Monaco earned a 2-1 win over Marseille to boost their push for a Champions League spot.
The USMNT striker scored in the 74th minute with a brilliant chipped finish to clinch Monaco’s seventh straight Ligue 1 victory and extend their unbeaten league run to 10 matches. Even more notably, the goal meant Balogun has now scored in six consecutive matches - the longest active scoring streak by any player in Europe’s top five leagues.
Only Kylian Mbappé has produced a longer run in the top five leagues this season, having scored in eight straight matches earlier in the campaign.
Balogun’s goal against Marseille also brought his total to eight goals in his last eight appearances in all competitions and 16 for the season, highlighting his importance to Monaco at a key point in the campaign.
The result moved Monaco level on points with Marseille and within one point of third-place Lille as the race for Champions League qualification heats up - with Balogun’s red-hot form proving decisive.
