Little by little, the world is getting to know all of the players called up for the World Cup. The team to announce its list of 26 players this Wednesday (20) was Egypt. Actually, there are 27, since the African side will still cut one player after its first warm-up match ahead of the tournament...
Led by Mohamed Salah, a star who is in the final stretch of his spell at Liverpool, Egypt also features other interesting names. Among them are goalkeeper El Shenawy, a national-team mainstay since the last decade; midfielder Trezeguet, formerly of Aston Villa and now at Al Ahly; and striker Marmoush, from Manchester City.
Before officially kicking off their World Cup campaign, Egypt will face Brazil on June 5 and Russia on May 27 in preparatory friendlies already in North America. Coach Ibrahin Hassan will have the squad available starting this Thursday (21) at the national teams' training complex in Cairo.
In 2026, the Egyptian national team will play in the World Cup for the fourth time in its history. Their debut came in 1934, when they played only once. In 1990 and 2018, the African side exited in the group stage without winning a single match. This year, Egypt are in Group G alongside Belgium, Iran and New Zealand.
