Lionel Messi was named the best player of the season in the MLS for the second consecutive year, a feat never before achieved in the competition. The Argentine forward won the first championship in the history of Inter Miami CF and was the top scorer and assist provider in the North American league.
The Argentine star arrived in the United States in 2023 to represent the club owned by David Beckham. Two seasons later, Messi led the Herons to the MLS championship title, with a double assist in the final against the Vancouver Whitecaps (3-1) last Saturday.
In this journey, the captain of the Albiceleste posted absolutely astronomical numbers, scoring 35 goals and providing 24 assists. In the MVP voting, he finished ahead of the Dane from San Diego FC, Anders Dreyer, and the Gabonese player from Los Angeles FC, Denis Bouanga.
Moreover, he became the first player to win the award twice in a row.
Back to back. ????????
