      Sporting edge past Rio Ave

      Sporting overcame Rio Ave, 2-1, on Saturday, on matchweek 16. In this competition, both teams came from a win. In the starting XI there was Ashley Barron, Mackenzie Cherry, Cassie Coster, Sydney Shepherd, Madison Wolfbauer and Rielee Fetty.

      The first goal of the game was scored by Chardonnay Curran, through a header inside the penalty area, after 22 minutes.

      With 67 minutes on the clock, Ashley Barron fired home for Sporting, from a corner. Telma Encarnação scored the winner in the 70th minute with a right-foot strike. With 83 minutes on the clock, Inês Matos missed the spot-kick.

      After the result Sporting are 2nd in the table, with 34 points, while Rio Ave sit 8th place, with 14 points. Next up, Micael Sequeira's team will play away against Benfica, whilst João Marques's team visit Valadares Gaia.
