Blackburn Rovers edged out Oldham Athletic in a close win on Tuesday, 3x2, on to matchday 1 of the League Cup. Both Tony Mowbray's team and Laurent Banide's team held their first game in the competition.
After 14 minutes, Gevaro Nepomuceno opened the scoring for Oldham Athletic, with a left-foot shot from outside the penalty box.
In the 70th minute, Bradley Dack fired home for Blackburn Rovers, with a right-foot strike. After 80 minutes, Mohamed Maouche scored the second goal for Laurent Banide's team, with a right-foot shot inside the box. With 90 minutes on the clock, Stewart Downing fired home Tony Mowbray's team second goal. Joe Rothwell scored the winner in the final minutes of the game with a right-foot strike inside the box.
