After 23 minutes, Edmond Tapsoba wasted the chance to score. The first goal of the game was scored by Anthony Caci, in the 26th minute. With 32 minutes on the clock, Nadiem Amiri fired home for Bayer Leverkusen. Shortly before the interval, Leandro Barreiro struck the second goal for Mainz.
After 58 minutes, Patrik Schick scored the second goal for Xabi Alonso's team. In the 80th minute, Amine Adli left the game early after seeing a red card. Marcus Ingvartsen netted the last goal after 82 minutes from the penalty spot.
After the result Mainz are 9th in the table, with 29 points, while Bayer Leverkusen sit 10th place, with 27 points. Next up, Bo Svensson's team will play at home against Borussia M´gladbach, while Xabi Alonso's team will play away against SC Freiburg.
